Partnership Will Link Leading Content Management And Business Process Software With Leading CRM Customer Communications Software

CARLSBAD, CA (October 31, 2001) - Document Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ: DOCX), the leader in Content Automation solutions for personalized print, Web and e-mail, today announced its membership in FileNET Corporation's ValueNET® partner program. Through its partnership with FileNET, Document Sciences will offer customers enterprise Content Automation solutions that complement FileNET's robust enterprise content management solutions.

Under the ValueNET program, FileNET provides software and developer support to facilitate the integration of complementary software products with FileNET's Panagon™ enterprise content management platform. Panagon is a tightly integrated enterprise process and content management infrastructure and extensible application development platform that automates and optimizes an organization's business processes.

"Many leading financial services and insurance organizations use Panagon to automate their business processes and manage their content. These organizations also use Document Sciences' Autograph™ software suite to create applications that automate the production of high-value personalized customer communications such as contracts, policies, quotes, and correspondence," said Dan Fregeau, Document Sciences' executive vice-president. "Through this new relationship we will incorporate connective functionality into Autograph that allows customers using Panagon solutions to take full advantage of Autograph's advanced print/Web/e-mail composition and delivery capabilities."

The first example of this functionality is a link between Document Sciences' Autograph Output Processing 2.0, to be released early next month, and FileNET's Panagon Capture Professional. Output Processing allows users to easily manage and customize document output for files created in CompuSet®, Document Sciences' hallmark composition engine. Panagon Capture Professional is a powerful and flexible eContent solution that acquires and indexes digital and paper-based content for online and traditional access across an organization. The new version of Output Processing allows users to distribute document output directly to Panagon Capture Professional therefore enabling the Panagon user to manage and access all customer documentation and content in a single repository.

"Document Sciences' Content Automation solutions are used by many FileNET customers, and the linkage between their solutions and Panagon will provide great value to our current and future common customers," said Martyn Christian, Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing, FileNET Corporation. "We look forward to identifying other opportunities to build additional linkages that will benefit the industries we serve."
