James J. Costello to Join Document Sciences Board of Directors

CARLSBAD, CA (November 6, 2001) - Document Sciences Corporation (NASDAQ: DOCX) announced that James J. Costello has joined its Board of Directors effective October 24, 2001. Mr. Costello, Director of Corporate Business Development for the Xerox Corporation, replaces Brian Stern, also of Xerox Corporation.

Employed by Xerox since 1975, Mr. Costello has had significant financial responsibilities in Xerox's domestic and international businesses, both at an operating company level and corporate level. He is currently responsible for Xerox worldwide corporate business development activities, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
